Shhhh, you didn't hear it from us...

Could the long-running rumour that the Surrey Hills will feature on the route for the men's and women's road races at the 2012 Olympic Games finally be set to break through the red tape and don its multinational jersey? An official announcement is expected this month...

The expected route will begin on The Mall and head south west passing through Richmond upon Thames. The route will include Richmond Park, Bushy Park, Hampton Court Palace and Twickenham, before heading further south into Surrey.

Cyclists will cross the M25 at Leatherhead before tackling an ascent or two of Box Hill and continuing to Headley and Dorking, west along the A25 to Shere, and finally back to The Mall taking in Byfleet and Weybridge on route.

P.S. Since I wrote this blog post it has also been reported that the cycling time trials will be held around Elmbridge.
