Duke sings The Blues … and Dr Clegg’s ITFC excitement grows

Ipswich Town chief executive Simon Clegg and I shared some more merry banter last night.

Firstly, we celebrated news that we have both been awarded honorary doctorates from University Campus Suffolk (UCS).

This is a significant award – and we are both delighted and a little humbled. We now have the right to be called “Doctor” but I’m sure neither of us will use the title!

But then conversation turned to Ipswich Town.

Like many, I am starting to get excited about the 2011/12 season – the Michael Chopra and Nathan Ellington striker signings have given cause for substantial optimism.

But I noted Simon’s hunger and passion, and the fact he is getting excited too.

There is something distinctly likeable about the ITFC boss – and Town fans will further warm to a man who opens his cheque book on a regular basis.

Now – all manager Paul Jewell needs is, a new winger, a new defensive stalwart, an incisive playmaker …. and a captain to bring it all together.

I’d say … call on mega-bucks mystery magnate owner Marcus for more funds, Dr Simon!
